Babies and flat feet Part 3 (Teacher: Michael)
If your child does have flat feet, try not to worry. Only about one in every 20 children with the condition grows up to have them as an adult.
The most useful way to help a child who definitely has flat feet is to provide shoes with what is known as an inner raise.
A small extra piece of leather is tacked onto the heel of the child's shoes to increase the height of the heel by a fraction of a centimetre, but this must
by a professional.
An inner raise will help your child acquire a better walking habit and a better arch within a couple of years. These raises aren't usually necessary after a child reaches the age of nine.
