Therefore muscle relaxation exercises are important. The following should be considered and followed with guidance:

• breath retraining - how to breathe deeply using all the lung capacity;
• visualisation;
• gradual exposure to all situations which cause stress;
• understanding emotions, since strong emotions can trigger an attack, for example, anger;
• encouragement to replace the thoughts by rational ones, basically using positive psychology - the same as I have mentioned in the past regarding psychology in a sports situation; and
• predicting setbacks while learning to avoid the panic attacks.

It is usual for a person to get attacks throughout the improvement period. They decrease slowly as the sufferers learn how to control themselves and the situation.

Finally, the most important point for sufferers of panic attacks is to ensure that family, friends, colleagues and the management at work understand the nature of this problem.

As soon as people show empathy the afflicted person will begin to relax. They need understanding, care and patience. When they are met with ridicule, impatience and a total lack of understanding the situation will inevitably get worse.
